"Do you really want revival? Do you really want God's power? Do you really want His spirit to control your life this hour? Oh repent and turn to Jesus, seek His face and humbly pray. Do you really want revival? Are you willing to obey?"
These words, penned by songwriter Ruth Green, ask a searing question to Court Street Baptist Church: do we really want revival?

This past week I attended the funeral service for the 13 year old son of a fellow pastor. During the course of the service, Pastor Sewell mentioned that he and the men of the church had been meeting each Thursday night for three years to pray for revival. He concluded by stating that he and his wife believed that God was going to use the tragic death of their only son to bring their church closer to revival.

I pondered this as I made my way home. Do we want revival bad enough to give up three year's worth of Thursday nights to pray for it? Do we desire the Spirit's power to be on us and working through us so much that we would pray, "Lord, whatever it takes." We don't always know what it will take, but we do know what we must do today: we must humble ourselves and pray, and we must repent and obey. We must put off all those things which hinder our running of the race, and we must get back into the Word of God and put Its truths into practice in our daily lives.

I hope that you will join with me in a prayer for revival. Not just now while you are reading this article, but tomorrow, and each tomorrow after that until Heaven opens and the Spirit moves and each of God's saints is transformed into the Spirit-filled, Bible practicing believer that God wants us to be.

Your Pastor
Mark J. Montgomery
