Ephesians 5:16 tells us to be "redeeming the time, because the days are evil. " Time is a precious commodity, and each passing day our lifetime allotment is depleted by 24 hours. Relentlessly, second by second, time marches on, and there is nothing that we can do to stop it.

Since we cannot stop time, nor truly save time, then we must learn to use our time wisely. Time is the great equalizer, for we all have the same amount of it each day. Talents differ, finances differ, abilities differ, but we've all got thre same 1440 minutes in a day. Have you ever come to the end of the day, looked back, and felt like you just wasted your- time all day? Most of us have had that experience. But what happens when that is repeated day after day? Soon we start looking back on wasted weeks, months, and lives. What a tragedy to come to the end of a lifetime, and look back with regrets on wasted years. Yet, unfortunately, some of us are now heading in that direction.

How can this problem be avoided? I believe the key is to determine what should be the Biblical priorities in my life. It is interesting to note that in verse 17 of Ephesians 5, Paul continues by saying "Wherefore (because we should be redeeming tine time) be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is." I need to find out God's will, or God's priorities for my life. What are God's priorities? Certainly my family is one of them. God gave me a wife to lead, and children to raise, in the ways of the Lord. How awful it would be to go to Heaven, yet not take your children with you. How sad to lead family members who will someday stand ashamed before God because of their lack of spiritual interest. No job or activity is more important than the spiritual development of those whom God has entrusted to my household. I must make time for them.

I must have time for ministry. The whole of the New Testament is devoted to exhortations to evangelize the lost aril edify the believer. If I never take my Christianity outside of the walls of my home, can I honestly say that I have been a "good and faithful servant" of Christ? Who is going to reach my neighbors, classmates, arid co-workers with the Gospel? The pastor? Some evangelist or missionary perhaps? No, that job has been given to me. Who is going to encourage my fellow church member? Should I hope that someone else will see the need and meet it? Ephesians 4 tells us that every joint in the body is needed in order for the church to grow spiritually. Thus, I must redeem the time, and place the souls of men and the work of the ministry high on my priority list.

One more area is needed, and this is the greatest one of all, for without it the other two priorities will never be accomplished. I must make my personal walk and growth in the Lord a necessity. Paul said that his goal was to "know" Christ. Peter tells us to "grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. " This requires time arid effort. Prayer, Bible study, memorization, meditation, and application are all a part. My friend, did you take time today to grow in the Lord? If not, what was it that was more important? Are you sure you are redeeming the time, or will you look back someday and sadly admit that much of your time, so far as eternity is concerned, was wasted? May each of us determine that we will use the minutes that God gives its us to accomplish His will in our lives. Your Pastor
