February 1992

"And now abideth faith; hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." (I Cor 13:13)
February, because of Valentines Day, is a month when people's thoughts turn toward love. It is a time for exchanging cards, and sending flowers or candy to that "special someone." It is with this in mind that I plan
to begin a new Sunday School series in my adult class on February 2nd.
We have been studying the Life of Christ for well over 2 years, and we
will return to that study, but I believe we need to look in a new
direction for a brief time.
I am concerned for the homes of America. Divorce is rampant, and many homes which remain together seem to be more of a battle zone than a love nest. Young people are rebellious against their parents, and most other authority figures. Drug abuse continues, teen-age immorality is the norm, and suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among young people. As believers, we know that Jesus Christ is the only answer to our problems. Government programs are doomed to failure, increased education awareness has only increased the problem, and just "hoping it will go away" has become the typical, yet unrealistic, solution. Unfortunately, the world's problems have bled into the church. No longer are these problems confined to "their homes"; they are a part of "our homes". Since Christ is the only answer to existing problems, and the only sure preventative to future problems, I would like to begin a series in my Sunday School class entitled "The Christian Home." We will deal with issues ranging from "why God instituted marriage", to "the four major sources of problems in the home." We will look at the proper roles that husband and wife, and children should have. We
will discuss communication and compatibility, and a whole list of other topics. I will teach this class as I normally do: with as much discussion and questions as people want to have. I am not the authority on the home, but I do have The Book by the One who is, and we will do our best to look at Scriptural principles as they apply in our homes.
I hope that you will come and be a part of this class. Many come
to the morning service without attending Sunday School. Perhaps this is a good time to start attending. Even if you are single, come; you may be married some day. If your children are grown, come; a large number of marriages fall apart after all the kids are gone. If you have been widowed, come; you may be able to help others in your family, and you may add much to our discussion. Regardless of your marital status, plan to be with us. I believe that God can use this to change lives. Remember, our Church will never be any stronger than the homes represented in it. Please pray for God's direction, and that His blessing will be upon this class.
