4/4/1999 Easter Sunday
Today is Easter Sunday. Perhaps it would be better termed "Resurrection Sunday"' for it is on this day that our Lord arose from the grave. Down through history men have tried to deny the reality of the resurrection. The crucifix leaves Jesus on the cross. The blasphemous rock opera "Jesus Christ, Superstar" ends with Jesus in the tomb. Modern theological "scholarship" has proposed theories ranging from the idea that Jesus wasn't really dead, but had merely fainted, to the deception originally offered by the Chief Priests that the disciples had stolen the body from under the watch of a Roman guard. Why this great desire to deny the resurrection? Because if Christ arose, then He WAS Who He claimed to be: the Incarnate Son of God. And if He is God then all that He said must be accepted, particularly those areas that deal with man's need of a Savior.
Thank God for the resurrection! Paul told the Corinthians that if Christ did not rise, then their faith was vain, and they were of all men "most miserable." But because He did come forth from the grave, we can be "steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord", for we KNOW that our labor "is not in vain in the Lord".
