08/23/2010 Prayer Letter Update
Subject: Hodsdon Prayer letter August 23, 2010
Dear Praying Friends and Family,
Vacation Bible School is scheduled to begin August 30th. Our hope was to have the roof and flooring finished before then, but it isn’t going to happen. We have to postpone our VBS until Sept. 6, the week before school begins. Lord willing, the roofing will be purchased tomorrow, and will be delivered hopefully by Wednesday. God is blessing us with this construction. Many ladies in the neighborhood have helped purchase and cook meals for the men working. It has been a great testimony for the neighborhood.
Additionally, we anticipate a lot more neighbors coming to the services once the building is ready. Once we finish the floor and roof on the building, we will still need to place the doors, locks and window bars as well as pour extra concrete for a covered patio that will be the Sunday school classroom for the young children. And the final concrete coat on the cinder blocks (walls) and some paint need to be added for extra security. Finally, the bathroom will need to be installed.
Our needs include, platform, podium, fans, tables, paint and white boards.
Recently our prayers were answered concerning the funds needed to renew our current health insurance. After much prayer, discussion, and more prayer, we (along with the donor) have decided that it would be best not to renew this coverage mainly because it covers so little for maternity and it would terminate after we were in the States in April (which is over 4 months early). Thank you for your prayers and concern for us; we have peace that this is God’s direction for us at this time.
Two young people have expressed interest in coming to Venezuela in October to help with the ministry of the church and our family. This would be a huge blessing. One is a young man in his 20’s from Searsport, Maine. We knew his family during our time on deputation. The young lady is a college student. Her parents attended Nikki’s home church when she was growing up and knows the family well. Her name is Kylie. Please pray that God will give them wisdom and the funds they would need to make the trip. If you would like more information about these young people, please email us.
Nikki is still really nauseous from the pregnancy, but we are praising the Lord she was able to attend church on Sunday. We are going to the doctor Tuesday morning(tomorrow) to make sure the infection she had last week is cleared, review lab work, and to make sure the baby is progressing well. Pray for her, as a mom and with the scary times last year, that God would answer our prayers, give peace and a healthy baby. We covet your prayers.
This week, Carl is working on a testimonial prayer letter with pictures and a description of our ministry here in Venezuela. He is going to contact pastors in the TN, TX, NY, PA, VA, WV, DE, NJ, and others to set up a constant schedule of meetings for next year. We anticipate at least 50 new church meetings, but our goal is 70. Pray for us as we really need to raise additional monthly support during our furlough next year as well as start up funds for a house and new church property. When we leave here in January, this church in Sector 2 of Francisca Duarte will be able to stand on its own with a church and a faithful Bible believing, preaching pastor. Praise God.
Need: If anyone has or knows someone with low cost missionary housing or furnished basement for a family of 5 and/or a car they could rent out during our furlough meetings from any of these areas, we would be happy to contact you. Please send us an email. Thank you.
In His Service,
Carl, Nikki, Ashilynn and Catelynn Hodsdon
