September 2008 Prayer Letter
Dear Praying Friends,
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant,
and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
Ecclesiastes 3:2
And a time to receive your disclosure statements. Yes, we finally received the paperwork needed to have a children’s Sunday School. I praise the Lord that this issue has been resolved. Thank you for your prayers.
Our first Sunday School was held on September 7. I am looking forward to seeing the Lord work through this ministry.
The head teacher at the local primary school has said that she will distribute Sunday School brochures to all of the children in the school. We have also had someone at a local day care say that they would distribute brochures.
We distribute hundreds of brochures and tracts every week, but it is necessary to use many ways of communication. The brochures that will be distributed through the school and day care are an unexpected blessing.
August 24 was the Abbeyview Festival. There were many pieces of literature distributed. Several contacts were made.
The picture below is of my Dad, Arvin Devers, in front of the literature table. Pictured with him are Merle and Barbara Ventrello. They are fellow missionaries who traveled from Glasgow to assist us.
I need your prayers regarding my next battle with government paperwork. I have been here almost two years which means it is time to renew my residence visa. This should be easy and straightforward; however, the immigration laws have been changed and I am not sure how this is going to affect my visa application.
Many thanks to the churches and individuals who sent birthday cards. They were all appreciated and will be included in my scrapbook.
Thanks also to those who prayed for my niece, Victoria, during her recent surgery. She is doing very well. Life will still be complicated for her, but overall she is doing great.
The exchange rate has been better for the past few weeks. This has been a huge relief to all British missionaries. Please pray that this trend will continue.
Prayer Requests:
- 1. Souls Saved
- 2. Church Growth
- 3. Sunday School
- 4. Visa application
- 5. Victoria’s continuing recovery
- 6. Good exchange rate to continue
God Bless,

Good Morning!
I request your prayers for a special day we are having at church this Sunday for the children. Please pray that we will have new children visit, that everyone will be on their best behavior and that they will listen carefully to the Gospel as it is presented.
I pray this finds you well.

Dear Praying Friends,
But Verily God hath heard me; He hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
Psalm 66:19
Praise the Lord for answer to
prayer! I finally received the
residence visa which allows
me to stay in Scotland for
three more years. Thank you
for your prayers concerning
this matter.
My Dad, Arvin Devers, had
the wonderful privilege of
baptizing George. George
had been saved in November
and was ready to take this
important step soon after.
He seems to be enjoying the
discipleship program that
began soon after his
conversion.
|
The special day for children
that we held in November
resulted in some new
children who have faithfully
attended the weekly Sunday
School. They are all a
blessing.
The children attending
Sunday School have been
very well-behaved and
attentive. They are able to
answer the review questions
for the stories and also ask
some important questions of
their own.
We had a special Christmas
program. Above you see the
children holding the
ornaments they placed on the
tree as the Christmas story
was told.
The ornaments all represent
important aspects of the
Christmas story:
Black - Sin
(The reason Jesus had to
leave His beautiful home in
Heaven)
Angel - Proclaimed the good
news to the shepherds
Star - Led the wisemen to
Jesus
Gold- One of the gifts given
to Jesus
Present - The gift of Jesus’
death on the cross
|
Red heart- The blood Jesus
shed
Bells - We should spread the
Good News
Recently I was in a charity
shop looking at the books.
(You never know what
treasure you may find.) One
book in particular caught my
attention.
The cover said Four Fairy
Tales. I proceeded to read.
It listed the normal fairy
tales -Cinderella, Pinocchio,
Sleeping Beauty
And then I did a double take.
The fourth fairy tale listed
was Noah and the Ark. I
opened the book and read
the Biblical account of The
Great Flood.
I was shocked and appalled
at how blatantly the message
that the Bible stories are
nonsense was so boldly
displayed on the cover of a
book for children.
Please pray that the children
in my Sunday School will
fully understand the truth
within God’s Word. My
burden is to fully convey to
them that salvation and the
wonderful things that go
with it are not fairy tales.
God Bless,

March 2009
Dear Praying Friends,
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
This year is the 150th
anniversary of the
publishing of Darwin’s
theory of evolution. There
have been many TV
programs praising the
“genius of Darwin”.
Not one program has been
advertised that refutes
Darwin’s theory with the
Biblical view of
Creationism.
I thank the Lord for the
opportunity to share Bible
truths each week with the
children in my Sunday
School. For most of them,
Sunday School is the only
place they hear about a
Savior who loves them, a
God who created them, and
the hope of Heaven.
We held another Children’s
Day on February 1. 22
children attended. We
played games and shared a
salvation message. Several
visitors have come to
Sunday School because of
that day.
|
Many thanks to the Dillman
family who helped us on
this special day. Mrs.
Dillman and my Mother,
Marsha, manned the prize
table.
Chanel has faithfully
attended Sunday School
since we began services in
Abbeyview. Here she is
enjoying throwing beanbags.
This was my team. They
were very well behaved.
Ryan (boy in red shirt) and
Kaitlyn (girl in pink shirt)
have also faithfully attended.
|
THERE'S PROBABLY NO GOD. NOW STOP WORRYING AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE.
This is the slogan of a new
group that has been formed
called the National
Federation of Atheist,
Humanist and Secular
Student Societies (AHS).
They have sprung up to
oppose what they believe is
a growing pandering
towards religious groups.
This group has raised
£150,000 to advertise their
“There’s Probably No God”
Two towns close to us have
been cracking down on
gangs of 40-60 teenagers
who have been walking the
streets at night and
flagrantly drinking to excess.
Alcoholism is a huge
problem in Scotland.
Please pray that God will
use us in the area we serve
to combat the ideas of the
AHS and show teenagers
that you can have a
wonderful life without the
crutch of alcohol.
Many thanks to all who
have faithfully supported
me financially and through
prayer.

May 2009
Dear Praying Friends,
For the LORD knoweth
the way of the righteous:
but the way of the
ungodly shall perish.
Psalm 1:6
The above picture is of the
famous Forth Road Bridges.
The bridge on the right is for
trains. The bridge on the left
is for vehicles.
The Forth Road Bridge is the
way to cross the Firth of
Forth between Fife (the
county I serve in) and
Edinburgh. I have crossed
this mile-long bridge many
times.
There are three types of
crossing that remind me of
the work here in Scotland.
1. Windy
Occasionally, the wind
blows so fiercely that highsided
vehicles are not
allowed to cross the bridge.
They must make a detour of
many, many miles to arrive
at another bridge which will
take them across the water.
As we work, there are times
we find the Lord sending us
in a totally different
direction than the one we
had been following. Our
|

work does not stop, we are
just detoured to another way
of doing things.
2. Traffic Jam
If you are unfortunate
enough to be caught on the
bridge during rush hour, you
may be sitting for awhile.
Sometimes we feel like we
are treading water. No
matter how hard you work,
you just do not seem to get
anywhere.
3. Normal
Then there are the great
times when you cross the
bridge without too much
traffic or being buffeted by
the wind.
I praise the Lord that He
allows us the normal,
fruitful times in the ministry
as well as the windy and
slow times.
I would request your prayer
for one of the children who
has faithfully attended
Sunday School for many
months. She has been
removed from her home
because of sexual abuse.
Please pray that the Lord
will remind her of the
Biblical truths she has
|

learned in Sunday School to
draw her to Him.
I have a big praise to share
with you!! One of the
children in Sunday School
shared with us that she had
prayed at home to ask Jesus
into her heart. After further
questioning, we are fully
convinced she knew what
she was doing and that her
salvation is secure. Praise
the Lord!!!
We have been led to pray for
the people in Abbeyview
street by street. As we pray
for the street, we knock on
the doors and tell the people
we are praying for them.
We ask them if they have any
prayer requests. Most of the
people tell us that they do
not need prayer, but,
occasionally, we are given a
request. This has given my
Dad, Arvin Devers, many
opportunities to present the
plan of salvation. Please
pray that our efforts will be
rewarded.
My Dad has updated the
church web site. You can
view it at www.abbeyview
baptistchurch.co.uk.
God Bless,

July 2009
Dear Praying Friends,
But it is good for me to
draw near to God: I have
put my trust in the Lord
GOD, that I may declare
all thy works.
Psalm 73:28
I praise the Lord for the
opportunities He has given
me over the past few months
to declare His works.
On June 7, we held another
Sunday School promotion
for the children. Even
though the attendance was
not as high as we had seen
previously, the children who
did attend seemed to have a
great time.
We always include a
presentation of the Gospel.
The above picture is of my
Dad, Arvin Devers, and his
helpers. The cards are
demonstrating the false
ideas people have about The
Way to get to Heaven.
On July 6, I had the
wonderful opportunity to
|

teach the children during the
missionary fellowship. We
have fellowship meetings
every few months. This
meeting saw missionaries
from Scotland, England and
Ireland get together for a
time of preaching, prayer
and, of course, eating.
The above picture shows me
holding up an example of
the craft we did after the
Bible story. I told the
children the Pineapple Story.
This story is about a
missionary who had to come
to the realization that
everything he owned
belonged to God before his
work could really flourish.
We have been distributing
many, many tracts as
weather allows. Below is
one of the responses we
received from a tract:
"I was deeply offended
annoyed and outraged by the
leaflet you recently put
through my letterbox telling
me I was a reject and
spouting nonsense that I was
a sinner. What gives you the
right to push this rubbish
into my home? The sin is
|

yours in not using your brain
for rational thought and
believing in this garbage.
You are a disgrace for a
human being believing in an
invisible man – I take it
being a grown up you don’t
believe in Santa Claus. Well
grow up and forget about
this mince too. You and
people like you are holding
back the human race. If I
receive any of this nonsense
again I will personally come
round to return it."
This has not stopped us or
slowed us down from
continuing our tract
distribution. Please pray
that the Lord will reward our
efforts.
I praise the Lord that the
appointment with my
oncologist on July 15
resulted in a good report. He
saw no indications of cancer
re-growth.
Many, many thanks to all of
the churches and individuals
who sacrifice to allow me to
serve God in Scotland and
declare all of His works. I
know that many of you are
going through hard times
because of the current
financial problems. You are
in my prayers
God Bless,

November 2009
Dear Praying Friends,
The Lord is my light and
my salvation; whom shall I fear?
the Lord is the strength of my
life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1
I am surrounded by people who live
in fear. They have financial and
physical fears. They fear for the
future of their children and
grandchildren. They fear being
different from their neighbors. They
fear what their family and friends
would think if they went to church.
One fear that is not present is the
fear of God. There is no fear of
what a holy, perfect God thinks of
their sinful state. There is no fear of
the everlasting punishment that
awaits them if they do not accept
Jesus.
I try very hard to explain to the
children in my Sunday School class
that even though God has an
unimaginable love for them; He also
expects them to receive the
wonderful Gift His Son has provided.
I am thrilled to share the good news
of Liam who was saved because of
the Bible teaching he heard in
Sunday School. Liam had come for
several weeks and understood what
|

he needed to do to be saved. He no
longer needs to fear eternity.
Liam is another soul that you will
never meet here on earth, but you
will meet in Heaven one day. What
a day that will be when you see how
important your prayers and financial
gifts were in adding to the family of
God!!
We will be having the church’s
annual Christmas banquet on
December 13. This has been a great
way to bring people into the church
who would never visit on a normal
Sunday.
We will have a 20 minute video
presentation called “God’s Greatest
Gift Ever” which will be followed
by a meal.
Please pray that the Lord will use
this day. Please pray that we will
have many people attend and that
these attendees will see their need of
salvation.
|

In my last prayer letter, I
mentioned a new outreach we are
involved in called “Christianity
Explained.” The launching of this
program required large amounts of
literature to be distributed. I am
very grateful for the missionary
friends who helped us with this
task!
From left to right
Front Row: Dylan, Taylor, May
Middle Row: Janet, Danielle, Ronnie, Peter
Back Row: Me, Russ, Marsha, Dennis
(My Dad, Arvin Devers, is taking the picture)
On November 10, I had the great
privilege of teaching a class of
missionary children during a
fellowship meeting. What a terrific
time I had with these special
children!! It is wonderful to see
how the Lord can use people of all
ages to do His work.
I pray that the Lord blesses you
with a wonderful Christmas!
Please remember to give thanks for
the best Gift you have ever been
given.
God Bless,

January 2010
Dear Praying Friends,
This letter begins with praise
to Him that is able to doexceeding abundantly above
all that we ask or think
(Ephesians 3:20).
All prayers that were raised
for the success of our
Christmas program were
answered. There were
52
people in attendance.
What a thrill it was to see all
of these people come
through our doors! As
terrible as it sounds, it was
also a relief to see them stop
coming through the doors.
The room where we hold
services is pretty small and it
filled up fast! There was no
room to seat any more people.
Mom and I were kept busy
in the kitchen preparing the
meal that followed the
service. Dad was busy
|
setting up audio/visual
equipment and finding
chairs for everyone.
It was an exciting day, but
we saw the Lord work in
every detail of the
preparation and execution of
this fantastic outreach.
Even though there were no
professions of faith that day,
everyone in the room heard
a clear presentation of the
Gospel. Everyone also left
with a DVD copy of the
video presentation which
had been shown. We have
had some feedback saying
that these DVD’s are being
watched.
As so often happens, this
wonderful day was followed
by a time of defeat. The
room where we hold our
church services is located in
a building which is managed
by the city council. They
have the right to close the
building to us on any
|
Sunday they choose. They
chose to close our building
for three weeks after the
Christmas program.
That means we were not able
to have our regular church
services. Even though we
worshipped in our home,
this was a huge
disappointment.
Please pray that the Lord
will provide a building for
us to buy or rent. We really
need access to a building
24/7. There are so many
more outreaches we could
have if we had a building of
our own. This would take a
real miracle, but we serve
the God of miracles.
The picture on the left top of
this letter is taken of a
neighborhood not far from
the building where we hold
services. As you can see,
there are hundreds of homes
in just this one photo. Please
pray the Lord will help us
reach these people in 2010!!
We are excited about the
great things God will do in
this new year. Please pray
for the following:
- 1. A building
- 2. Souls saved
- 3. Tract distribution
God Bless,

March 2010
Dear Praying Friends,
And I thank Christ Jesus
our Lord, who hath
enabled me, for that he
counted me faithful,
putting me into the
ministry;
I Timothy 1:12
This month marks the 20th
anniversary of my parents’,
Arvin and Marsha Devers,
arrival in Scotland to begin
their missionary work. The
picture above is of our first
prayer card. It is hard to
recognize some of us!
I want to take this
opportunity to thank them
for their faithfulness through
all of the triumphs and
challenges that have been
part of their ministry. I pray
|

the Lord allows them many
more years of faithful service.
Seeing someone saved is
definitely the best part of my
job! I thank the Lord for the
teenagers who recently
prayed to be saved because
of the Sunday School
ministry.
I was given the all-clear by
my oncologist last month.
This August will be the allimportant
five year mark.
My chances of recurring
cancer go down greatly after
that.
Please continue to pray for
our building situation. We
really need a place that is
available for our use 24/7.
Please pray the Lord will
send us to the exact place we
need.
We have been holding Bible
studies this month in a
village down the road from
us called Kelty. These Bible
studies require a lot of work,
but they enable us to find
people who are interested in
learning more about God
and the Bible.
There are several things we
must do to prepare for these
meetings:
1) Find a meeting place
2) Place an advertisement in
the newspaper
|

3) Distribute invitations to
as many houses as possible
4) Prepare the lesson and
special music
5) Gather the items to
provide tea and biscuits after
the meeting
The most challenging part of
the preparation is the
invitation distribution. We
personally deliver the
invitations through people’s
mail slots. This requires a
lot of step climbing!
We will continue to hold
Bible studies in the area
villages. Please pray that the
Lord will lead us to those
who want to know more
about Him
I am grateful that the long,
dark days of winter are
ending. The sun is coming
up around 6 AM and not
going down until 6:30 PM. It
is wonderful to see some
flowers blooming and to not
feel constantly cold.
Many thanks to you all for
your prayer and financial
support. I know many of
you currently have
economic problems. It
makes me appreciate your
generosity even more.
God Bless,

P.S. The picture at the top is of a
puffin.

04/19/2010 Prayer Letter Update
Subject: PRAYER REQUEST
Praying Friends,
My 11 year old niece, Victoria, had a serious accident on the playground this evening. She has two broken ankles. One of them will be repaired with surgery. It will need a screw to hold it together. Her other ankle will be in a cast. She will be wheelchair bound for 4 to 6 weeks.
We are not sure if the pins in her hips have been bothered by this accident. She received those during a previous surgery.
Please pray that they will be able to control her pain and that the surgery will go well. Her family is in Germany where her father is stationed with the Army. Her care will take place in a German hospital. The language barrier is very hard to overcome. Please pray for her and her family as they deal with this situation. I really appreciate it!!
God Bless,

Subject: PRAYER REQUEST UPDATE
Dear Friends,
Thank you for your prayers!!
Victoria's surgery went well and the pins are in her ankle. Both legs are encased in casts from her toes to her knees.
She will be in the hospital until at least Friday. They are doing physical therapy with her to build up her arm muscles so that she can handle the wheelchair. Thankfully, she is already really strong.
Please pray that they can control her pain and that she will not get behind in her schoolwork.
Thanks again, Lea Devers
